Cape All Stars look to upset Downs

Cape Town All Stars will square off with Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup last 32 match at the Athlone Stadium on Friday.

Kick-off is at 8pm.

Igugu Lekapa booked their place in the last 32 after defeating fellow National First Division (NFD) side Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila FC 2-0 at home in the preliminary round match last month.

All Stars, who lost 2-0 to Bidvest Wits in the last 32 last season, are undefeated in their last six NFD matches and they will be looking to cause an upset against Sundowns at home.

Meanwhile, Sundowns extended their unbeaten run to three matches in the league when they secured a 1-0 victory over Cape Town City in the Mother City last week Friday.

The Brazilians have won the Nedbank Cup four times, having clinched their last title in 2015 after defeating Ajax Cape Town in the final.

Mamelodi Sundowns: Onyango, Morena, Langerman, Nascimento, Bangaly, Mabunda, Billiat, Manyisa, Brockie, Tau, Vilakazi.

What the teams are saying

Cape Town All Stars head coach Brandon Truter:

“We are facing a coach who is ranked among the top 10 in the world‚ we are certainly underdogs.

"But it gives my players a chance to showcase their ability and test the ability of the coaching staff as well. The first team‚ second team or even third team‚ the quality throughout their squad is amazing‚ they could even compete against Bafana.

“Jeremy Brockie‚ Khama [Billiat]‚ Themba Zwane‚ that is the calibre of players sitting on the bench.”

Mamelodi Sundowns striker Jeremy Brockie:

"It will be pretty nice. It was the first piece of silverware (Nedbank Cup) that I won in South Africa and I have managed to go back-to-back with it.

"I feel I'm in the right team to go and win it for the third time. It's definitely on my mind and hopefully I can make that achievement."

"We are not going there (Cape Town) overconfident because it is a cup game and anything can happen."

Cape Town All Stars key players

Msekeli Mvalo: The defender has been a reliable player in the All Stars defence this season having made 17 appearances in the NFD. The former Chippa United defender will be looking to play an important role in helping Igugu Lekapa stun Sundowns.

Lucky Setelele: The forward is a key player for All Stars having scored seven goals in the NFD this season. The 23-year-old attacker will be hoping to hit the back of the net against Brazilians and help his side advance to the last 16.

Mamelodi Sundowns key players

Denis Onyango: The accomplished goalkeeper has been in top form for Sundowns having kept three consecutive clean sheets in the league. The Uganda international will be eager to continue his good form against All Stars.

Khama Billiat: The prolific forward remains one of the most dangerous attackers in the PSL having netted a beautiful goal against Cape Town City last week. The Zimbabwe international has the ability to single-handedly inspire the Sundowns victory against Igugu Lekapa.
