Highlands thrash Wits to secure third

Bidvest Wits succumbed to a disappointing 5-2 defeat against Highlands Park in their final Multichoice Diski Challenge fixture of 2017 at the Tsakane Stadium on Sunday.

South Africa youth international forward Sizwe Twala got the scoring underway for Wits in the 11th minute with a long-range strike that skidded off the surface and into the back of the net.

However, the Lions of the North rallied back with two goals before the halftime whistle as Malesela Elias Monene and his strike partner Muzi Thabotha ran riot - against a Wits side depleted by international call-ups.

Monene restored parity in the 31st minute before Thobotha put the visitors ahead on the stroke of halftime, to set up an enthralling second period of play.

Muzi Thabotha completed his hattrick and Monene grabbed a second for himself, as the Gauteng based side raced to a 5-1 lead.

Veteran winger Dillon Sheppard managed to grab a late consolation for the Clever Boys to make it 5-2, but the result sees the highly rated Wits team finish in fifth.
