Jomo: We won’t go down

After watching his side labour to a hard-fought draw against championship aspirants, Kaizer Chiefs, Jomo Cosmos boss, Jomo Sono said he was more convinced that his side will survive the chop this season.

It was a polished performance by Ezenkosi and Amakhosi even though finishing let both teams down.

For Sono though, the draw might be seen as yet another setback thwarting the team’s ascendency in the Absa Premiership table.

“We are playing good football. After the way we played against Chiefs, I think I will sleep well and more convinced that we will not be relegated at the end of the season,” Sono said.

“We won’t go down. At night I sleep, I eat well, I have no problem. I know that we are doing something right and the results will have to come,” the former Bafana coach said.

Brilliant on the ball

In fairness, Sono has a point when he talks about the type of enterprising football played by his side. Even on days when they have been on the receiving end of defeats, the Cosmos team has never looked dull when on the ball.

Fancy football, one might argue, doesn’t necessarily translate to points on board. And, it is those points that Ezenkosi need to climb the ladder.

“We are comfortable on the ball, we are playing good football. I have been in football long enough to know how to deal with tricky situations like these.

Sono’s side surrendered a 1-0 lead to a Chiefs side that had been misfiring all evening. It was a sore point for the Cosmos boss, but he praised his side for putting a spirited performance against a fancied Chiefs side.

Cosmos are still second from bottom – one point better off than when the Absa Premiership second round started Wednesday night.

VV rues missed chances

Chiefs coach, Vladimir Vermezovic said the Cosmos game has given him insight on what needs to be improved on his side going forward.

“The first game in the second part of the season is always a tough game. The game against Cosmos was an interesting game, we missed opportunities. And, when you miss your chances in football you should be punished.

“We lost possession and we got punished. But we equalised thanks to Majoro. I hope the next game can be much better.

In three days time, we have another game, there is no room to be sentimental. We need to rest and prepare for the next game,” the Serb said.

Chiefs are currently third in the log standings meaning there has been no change for them. They are now five points adrift leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns.
