Weekend in quotes

While Jomo Sono is courting lady luck, Orlando Pirates coach was in buoyant mood after their 2-1 victory in the Absa Premiership.

This weekend had its fair share of moments. And, the coaches, as usual, had plenty to say. Below are some of the quotes.

Jomo Sono, Jomo Cosmos coach

“If you saw the team that played today, we are not playing like a Second Division team, we play as if we have been in the Premiership for many years. The only thing is that we must ask God for a little bit of luck. We created chances, but we are not taking them in the box.

“In the last few games, all our matches have been too close. We could have won, but unfortunately we were not lucky.”

Johan Neeskens, Mamelodi Sundowns coach

“What happened against Swallows is part of football. Calvin (Marlin) is a quality goalkeeper and he cannot become a bad keeper overnight.”

Julio Leal, Orlando Pirates coach

"He (Bongani Ndulula) is a consistent striker and a very good young player. I think we must have patience with him and the supporters as well. I took him off not because the supporters were booing him, it was a tactical decision.

“It happens to any striker who stays a long time without scoring goals.”

Clinton Larsen, Bloemfontein Celtic coach

“Too many players in the team at this moment are not performing and some of my bigger players, senior players that we were expecting so much more from, are not performing.

“I must say that we can’t only rely on our form, we’ve got to start picking points up on the road. We’ve player five away this season and won only one, which is a very poor record and something we need to improve.”

Roger Palmgren, Amazulu

“We played soccer more than we’ve ever done before and the reason for that was (Kagiso) Senamela, Stanley (Kgatla) and Bongani Mbele, who really held the ball, kept possession nicely and tried to play proper soccer.”

Vladimir Vermezovic, Kaizer Chiefs coach

“It's not easy to be calm after all the things that happened last week. But the players are professionals and sometimes these things happen in football. We found the right way to fix our problem by winning the match and we showed character today.”
