Nhlapo backs Cosmos against Celtic

Since their return to the elite division, Jomo Cosmos are yet to register a win be it in league or Cup competition.

Now as they embark on an ambitious Telkom Knockout competition, they intend to change that. Jomo Cosmos’ on form forward, Siya Nhlapo is confident that his team can progress to the last eight stage of the Telkom Knockout competition when they take on Bloemfontein Celtic at the Sinaba Stadium on Wednesday evening.

“We are confident of a win, it’s a knock out competition and no team will want to sit back and hope for a point. We cannot go out there and play for a draw; it’s a matter of getting a win at all costs.

“Cup games are different to league games. The encouragement from the technical has also boosted the team and has given the team confidence since our last game against Ajax Cape Town where we got a point,” he added.

Jomo Cosmos pulled off a brave performance against the Cape side and were unlucky not to get maximum points. Nhlapo was awarded man of the match award to cap his performance.

“I should thank the team for the encouragement and the boost I got from them before and after the match. I can say that the confidence is growing in all individuals in the team,” said Nhlapo.

Celtic will be a tough mountain for Cosmos, but the Ezenkosi player is optimistic.

“We just going to implement our strategy and if our tactics work on the day, we should emerge victorious. They are a good side and we need to respect them. We have a team consisting of youngsters who recently joined the pro league like me.

“However, that cannot be regarded as a problem at this stage because we have played eight games in the league so far, and we have found the stability. I think we coming along just fine and we are ready for the particular encounter,” he added.

Nhlapo, who joined Cosmos last year, is happy with how things have been going for him this season. He has hailed the influence of his coach, Jomo Sono on him and the team.

“Bra J encourages and motivates us positively that anybody can be anyone in his team”.

“I do see myself emulating great players like Nkosinathi Nhleko,Dikgang Mabalane, but all of that is achievable if one works hard.”
